Dust Bowl Brewing 'Therapist' Imperial IPA. 10.4% abv. 100 IBU. Golden color. A finger of white head that slowly falls to a reliable collar. Good retention and superb lace. Nose of floral hops and malt. Front taste of sweet roasted malt, biscuit, abundant hops, mild citrus background. Aftertaste of caramel, bright herbal hops, and a stronger citrus peel flavor. Big body. Mouthfeel is thick, rich, creamy, lingering. This is an extraordinary beer, one of the best imperial IPA's out there.
During a tour of their brew facility, I learned that Therapist is one of two beers that requires no marketing (the other being their flagship 'Hops of Wrath'.) "It sells itself and grows and grows in sales, just based on word of mouth," said their brewmaster. Therapist has a roasted sweet flavor profile that's a result of scorching a portion of the wort during the brew process. I've been lucky enough to have enjoyed this beer many times, from both bottle and tap, including at Dust Bowl's taproom within a day of brewing, and it is one of my all-time favorites. Strongly recommend.
From the brewery:
"At over 100 IBUs, Therapist is surprisingly easy to drink. Big, bold hop aromas and flavors of citrus, tropical fruits and pine are bracketed by light malty sweetness that does not overpower. A healthy addition of wheat in the grain bill adds to the body and mouthfeel."
