21st Amendment 'Sneak Attack' Saison

21st Amendment Sneak Attack Saison 1
21st Amendment 'Sneak Attack' Saison. Farmhouse ale. 6.2% abv. 38 IBU. Hazy apricot color. Finger of white head off the pour falls quickly to a thin surface. Moderate-low retention, excellent lace. Nose of light malt, sweet citrus, grapefruit notes. Front taste of spice, grapefruit rind, light fruit. Aftertaste of bitter citrus, background floral hops. Light body. Mouthfeel is thin, tangy.

This is a nice saison, with easy drinkability and notes of citrus and spice. The bitter grapefruit is pleasant, not overpowering, but the much trumpeted cardamom pods were not easily detected. Still, this is a nice craft beer for a lunch break. Recommended.

From the brewery:

"You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter. Sneak Attack is our late winter seasonal beer available from January through March in six pack cans and on draft. The perfect antidote to the big beers of winter, Sneak Attack is crisp, dry and palate cleansing. It pairs perfectly with the rich and warming foods of winter: Bouillabaise, sausages, smoked meats and full flavored cheeses."
