Stiegl 'Goldbräu' Lager. 4.9% abv. Gold-yellow in color with finger of foamy white head. Good retention and lace. Nose of mild herbal hops, vegetal grain, toasted bread. Front taste of sweet corn, mild greens, crackers, slight bitter herbs on the back end. Aftertaste is slightly sweet malt, grassy, a touch of floral hop bite in the sustain. Light body. Mouthfeel is cool, clean, crisp, round.
This is an enjoyable brew, an Austrian lager that has many of the checkboxes of its category, balanced into a refreshing, round session beer. The flavors are mild to be sure, but they are flavors are in the plural sense which is not always the case with similar brews. The aroma is simple, but the initial taste offers just enough variance that I could see myself having a couple of these at a lovely outdoor party.
Bottom line - and it always comes down to this - I would buy this beer again, if only for that hypothetical party or perhaps an Octoberfest event. It tastes like a tall boy of Coors, but with more sweet grain and herbal hop tastes, minus the metallic or buttery off-flavors. Take that as you will. Mildly recommended.

From the brewery:
"Stiegl Goldbräu is mild at the first sip with a full-bodied taste. It delights the palate with its slightly edgy, grainy undertones and typical hoppy notes that linger in the finish. A wonderfully refreshing Salzburg speciality with 12% wort content."
