Shipyard Brewing 'Pumpkinhead' Ale

Shipyard Pumpkin Ale 1
Shipyard Brewing 'Pumpkinhead' Ale. 4.5% abv. Honey color. Clear. Thin white head that falls fast. Low retention and lace. Nose of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange liquor. Front taste of pumpkin, warm spice, caramel. Aftertaste of sweet orange peel, coriander, nutmeg, fruit bitter finish. Thin body. Mouthfeel is watery, small carb, thin syrupy.

This is a good pumpkin brew. It delivers big on the promise of pumpkin (pie) spice in a seasonable beer. This tastes like a decent lawnmower beer that has been enhanced by an abundance of autumn spices that are present from the aroma on down. Stacked against typical lawnmower beers, this offers more flavor and character. Stacked up against truly great pumpkin ales, like that of Dogfish Head and Samuel Adams, it is merely adequate, with its slightly overdone sweet-spice flavor. It's still worth checking out during the season. Recommended.

From the brewery:

"A seasonal favorite!  Try Pumpkinhead with a shot of spiced rum or in a pint glass rimmed with sugar and cinnamon. Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale is a crisp and refreshing wheat ale with delightful aromatics and subtle spiced flavor."
